To Kill A Mockingbird: Chapters 21-25

Filed under: Uncategorized —— bautomaureen @ 3:50 pm

These chapters were very shocking and sad. Tom has been said to be guilty and sent into jail. I felt bad for him because he didnt have a lot of chance to prove to the juries and other people that he didnt do anything. At first, I knew that he’s going to lose the case because his opponent was powerful and yeah. I was right, but I didnt expect Toms gonna die in the story. Tom’s decision to escape wasnt the best decision. When he died, the story went fast and also sad. He was very innocent when he died and people should have realized that from the start. It was not a good ending for Tom’s family because they didnt know that Tom died until they told the news to the family. I could really feel the emotions of losing someone who was very close to your heart. It was just sad. Tom Robinson was a good man and their neighborhood should be sorry for him and give him some justice. I also think that it was very unfair to Tom Robinson when he died. We all know that no ones perfect and everyone makes mistakes. These chapters really sadden me and yeah, thats okay though because the story needs to go on even though Tom died. And also, i like Scout now because shes being a real woman and it seemed like she was changing in the story because unlike at the beginning of the story, she was like tomboy or something but now, she started wearing dress. I dont know, but i just liked it. These chapters were very nice and awesome. :D

Quote For Chapters 21-25

“’Judge, I-this is a note from my sister. She says my children are missing, haven’t showed up since noon… I… could you-‘

‘I know where they are, Atticus.’ Mr. Underwood spoke up. ‘they’re right up yonder in the colored balcony- been there since precisely one-eighteen P.M.’” (Lee 206)

This quote is important to the book because Atticus did not want scout, Jem, and dill to come down to the courthouse to see the case. But Jem would not take no for an answer. Scout and dill were not going to sit at home and miss the case, so they went with Jem. When they left no one knew where they were going so when their aunt sent the letter to Atticus he became worried. Luckily the judge had seen them and told Atticus.

Chapter 21-25 Song: Only Hope

Filed under: Songs —— bautomaureen @ 3:42 pm

I chose Only Hope by Switchfoot for chapters 21-25 because in these chapters, Tom Robinson has been blamed to be guilty about the raping case. I think his only hope was that a lot of people were supporting him so like this one is a great song for him and these chapters.

In chapters 20-25 we found out that tom Robinson was found guilty. I did not think that he was going to be found guilty. I do not think that he was guilty. Then again this was a long time ago where things were different and certain people were not treated as fairly as others. I think that Atticus put up a good case for tom Robinson and if it were in different times he probably would have won the case and tom would not have been found guilty. It is good that the jury spent a lot of time thinking about what they were doing and it was longer than it would have been tom had not had Atticus as a lawyer.

In these chapters we also found out that tom had tried to escape from the prison and he ended up being shot many times, more than enough times to have killed someone. I do not think that he deserved to be shot and killed. I would understand if he was shot once to make him slow down, so that he could be caught and brought back easier, but he should not have been killed. Now someone has been killed for something that they did not do and that is not right.

quote

“’Did you call a doctor?’

‘No sir,’ repeated Mr. Tate.

‘Why not?’ There was an edge to Atticus’s voice.

‘Well I can tell you why I didn’t. It wasn’t necessary, Mr. Finch. She was mighty banged up. Something sho’ happened, it was obvious.’

‘But you didn’t call a doctor? While you were there did anyone send for one, fetch one, carry her to one?’

‘No sir—‘” (lee 167)

This quote was during court, the conversation was between Atticus and Mr. Tate. I chose this quote because I think it had a lot to do with the whole court case. I think that if they had been mad enough to sue that they would have gotten a doctor when the incident first happened. If they had gotten a doctor then there would have been a professional to see the damage that Mayella had.

Initial post chapters 17-20

In one of the chapters of to kill a mockingbird we heard Mr. Ewell’s point of view of what had happened November 21st. His point of view in my opinion was a little blurry, and it did not make a lot of sense. It was blurry, in my opinion, because he could not remember which of Mayella’s eyes had been the one that had been given a black eye. If he had been that mad about his daughter being hurt he should have been able to remember all of the bruises she had.

The part, in my  opinion, that Mr. Ewell’s “memory ” of that night did not make much sense was when he found his daughter in the house but he just looked through the window. Another part that did not make much sense was when instead of trying to help his daughter get back on her feet he ran to get Heck, then when  Heck and him had gotten back Mr. Ewell did not get a doctor to come and make sure his daughter was alright. If you really cared about your daughter you would have tried to help her before you got someone else to come over, and you would get a doctor to come and make sure that she would be alright.

To Kill A Mockingbird: Chapters 17-20

Filed under: Initial Posts —— bautomaureen @ 4:23 pm

I think Chapters 17-20 were the most exciting parts of the story because of the trial. The Chapters were really focused on it. I feel bad for Tom because most of the people there, especially Bob and the jury were like forcing him to lie and just agree about the case. Tom said his statements and they said he was lying. I hate Mayella because she was lying about it and she was saying that Tom raped her even though Tom said he didnt. Bob Ewell was so mysterious during the trial because he probably was the one who did all those things to Mayella like all the bruises that Mayella got from beating. It was said that Tom could only use one hand and it was a right hand but the bruise on Mayella’s face was punched by a left handed. That information was so obvious that Mayella and Bob were lying throughout the trial. I liked the fact that the children were there to support Tom and Atticus. They were very supportive. If I were one of them, I would hide somewhere so no one could see me and I would stay until the end of the trial because I want to support Atticus and Tom. Sometimes, I wonder if what would happen if Atticus and Tom did not work together. I still feel bad for Tom because of everything. I knew he did not do it because i feel like he was innocent. I liked these chapters, as usual, because of the trial. It was all like intense for me and i bet its going to be more intense in the next chapters.

To Kill a Mockingbird Chapter 10-12

Chapter 10

This chapter was quite riviting for the reason that the writer, in this chapter, sort-of showed more of how the character felt and how they thinked. I liked how they brought more to the character Artticus. The writer also explained how Scout and Jem thought about their father. They think that he is not like the other father in their classes. Saying that he is older and somewhat odd in a way. They said that he didnt do dad like things like play foot ball or play poker. They said that really all he did was sit on the couch and read. Quite boring, but I would like a dad thats quite…but thats just me. Scout and Jem also think that its strange that their father doesnt have a really “cool” job like driving a dump truck or things like that; all he did was sit in an office.

I was also intrigued to hear about the mockingbird thing. Saying when Atticus told that you can shoot at “tincans” or “bluejays” but not mockingbirds because it was a sin. It was pretty cool to hear that Scout had never really heard her father say that anything was a sin either. But I digress…I read that Scout went to Miss Maudie to ask her why it was a sin to kill a mocking bird. She said that they dont do anything to people than give them beautiful music. She also said that they dont eat at crops or make nests in corn feilds, and thats why its a sin to kill a mocking bird.

Chapter 11

I liked this chapter even though it was kind of sad. It was dissapointing when Scout and Jem were walking to the market and Mrs. Dubose made the comment about how their father was no better than the black people he worked under, because when Jem was walking back he killed Mrs. Dubose prized camellias.  After Atticus found out they were punished to go over to Mrs. Dubose house six days every month and read to her.

I found this sad but after Mrs. Dubose died and Scout and Jem learned the reason why Atticus made them go over there was even sadder. But it was still a good chapter.

Chapter 12

This chapter was okay. In this chapter Jem is getting older and tells Scout to stop fallowing him and start acting more like a girl. I felt bad for Scout but i knew how Jem feels. Being told this Scout looks forward to the arival of Dill in the summer, but when she recieves a letter about how he’s going to stay with his mother and new father Scout becomes some-what depressed.

When Scout’s family recieves word of that Atticus has to leave for the state’s capital for two weeks. They stay with Calpurnia. After an outing to a colored church Aunt Alexandra is waiting for them.

Chapters 17-20 Song: Perfect

Filed under: Songs —— bautomaureen @ 3:51 pm

I picked Perfect by Simple Plan because it relates to all of the characters in the story, mostly characters in Chapters 17-20. It tells you that no one is perfect and every person makes mistakes.
